New 2008-2009 Opportunities for Graduate Students

The Program on the Global Environment has a number of opportunities for advanced graduate students specializing in environmental topics, regardless of discipline. GRADUATE PRECEPTOR - BA COLLOQUIUM IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

The Preceptor will be responsible for coordinating and conducting the two quarter B.A Colloquium sequence in Environmental Studies in close consultation with the Environmental Studies Faculty and Program Director. The preceptor will be responsible for guiding students in all aspects of their preparation of a B.A. Thesis and will meet with each student for a minimum of 2½ office hours/quarter to provide individual support and guidance. In addition, preceptors will assist undergraduates earlier in their program, providing thesis advice and program support.

TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Assistantships will be awarded for the two course Environmental Studies Core sequence (ENST 212 and 213) and up to two additional upper division courses in Environmental Studies. Teaching Assistants complete all reading assignments, attend class lectures, lead discussion, hold office hours for students, meet regularly with faculty to discuss course material and teaching strategies, and design and grade class assignments and exams.

The Environmental Studies major invites proposals for a one-quarter undergraduate course to be taught in academic year 2008-2009. We welcome proposals for courses that deal with environmental topics including but not limited to environmental economics and policy, development, globalization, environmental history, landscape studies and human ecology, and environmental ethics, philosophy, and representation. Successful applicants will be appointed by the Social Sciences Collegiate Division as Environmental Studies Prize Lecturers for the academic quarter in which the course will be offered.

The Program on the Global Environment invites proposals from qualified graduate students in any discipline related to Environmental Studies for grants of up to $2,500 for research that incorporates meaningful participation by Environmental Studies undergraduate majors or minors during 2008-2009. We welcome proposals for projects that address environmental topics including but not limited to environmental economics and policy, development, globalization, environmental history, landscape studies and human ecology, and environmental ethics, philosophy, and representation.
